I love the taglines for this year’s Art on the Block fundraiser for the Art Gallery of Alberta:

AND

“Show no mercy in the name of art.”

The idea is to bid a lot and often and compete with other art lovers for prized artwork. All the proceeds go towards funding the educational programs and exhibitions at the gallery.

Save the date: Kinetic Exhibition at Harcourt House

The 25th anniversary of Harcourt House Gallery and Artist Run Centre in Edmonton will be celebrated with another stellar event, the annual Member’s Exhibition. As a part of the Works Art and Design Festival, the theme and title of the show is Kinetic.

This event doubles as a fundraiser for the gallery and I encourage all to come out and lend support to an amazing local organization. I will be selling my new (never before seen) work to support Harcourt and their impressive list of programs.

As the Artist in Residence at Harcourt House, I will be opening my studio, giving a poetry reading and demonstrating the woodworking techniques I have developed in my current body of work entitled, “The Quiet Rebuild.” It is going to be an exciting opening and exhibition!

Save the date! Here are the details:

Kinetic Exhibition, June 13 – July 5, 2013

Art Market in ‘da House, Harcourt House

I cannot tell you how much I love my wonderful art patrons. You buy my work, attend my openings and generally cheer me on. Thank you!

This Saturday I will be exhibiting some never before seen artwork I created while I lived in New Zealand. I’ve got paintings made with the very sand and sea shells of the Eastern Beach where my hubby and I took up residence for two years. The work is colorful, textural and ready to be adopted into good homes.

I’m also offering some newer works and even showing a sneak peak piece from my upcoming solo exhibition entitled “The Quiet Rebuild” which will adorn the main gallery of Harcourt in a solo exhibition in October of this year.

For some art is a hobby. As a professional artist, the boundary between hobby and work often overlap and blur. But that’s fine with me. One of my newest hobbies, candle making, will debut at the Harcourt Art Market and I’m thrilled. If you are looking for a handmade gift with a creative twist, these candles are for you! Vintage meets chic style – but that’s all I will say for now. Come and see for yourself.

Art Donation for YESS Edmonton

It was my pleasure to donate a piece of my artwork for Rock ‘n’ Robes, a fundraiser for YESS Edmonton. YESS, Youth Empowerment and Support Services, is a quintessential not-for-profit in Edmonton which is “unconditionally devoted to helping youth facing difficult realities.”

I had the pleasure of interacting with Katie Clackson who is one of the fundraiser organizers. She sold me on the event describing it as: Rock ‘n’ Robes is a battle of the bands event in which a number of musically talented lawyers and judges will be performing for their colleagues and other members of the Edmonton community.

How fun is that! What a creative idea to bring people together to raise funds for a great cause!

YESS is a great cause, but over the years they have experienced significant difficulty reaching their funding goals. I have tweeted often in support for YESS, circulating a request for help letter they put out to the media and community not long ago.

Please visit the YESS website to learn about donating, or if you are able please get involved.

Our community can be strong and healthy when we commit ourselves to do good.

Giving with Style

This past Saturday evening I exhibited and sold my art at Giving with Style. The event raises money for the Youth Emergency Shelter and Hand Up Leadership Development Program. It was a great success and I was met with a lot of positive feedback about my art and photography. I sold some of my favorite pieces but I know they will go to good homes.

My handsome husband and business partner, Aaron, drilling the lights into our easels before the doors open.

We finished preparing the art and displays just in time for a photo op!

Our display area all ready for happy shoppers and art lovers.

One of my favorite photographs I took in Santorini, Greece. This image was also exhibited at the Jubilee Auditorium.

By the end of the evening we had made quite a few art and photography sales. These ones are packaged and ready to go.

Giving With Style took place Saturday, November 17, 2012 at McElheran’s Fine Furniture Showroom (10115-124 Street) in Edmonton, Alberta.  Come give next year; check the website for future events.
