Exciting Announcements for InFocus Photo 2018

There are many exciting things in the works for InFocus Photography Exhibition and Awards 2018! As the curator, this gets me giddy. Unfortunately, I cannot share all the details now, but here are some of what’s coming up:

1.

The theme of InFocus 2018 is “Next Level”

2.

InFocus exhibit and events will be hosted at the Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel

3.

New Emerging Photographer award sponsored by PhotoEd Magazine

4.

InFocus Photo’s PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD winner will take home coveted new prizes

NEXT LEVEL THEME

I love this theme! In today’s prolific digital age, photographers must think hard and work even harder to set themselves apart. The question I asked of photographers submitting to InFocus:

“How do you take your photography to the next level?”

Ways I envision that the “next level” is reached photographically is through:

  • NEXT LEVEL techniques
  • NEXT LEVEL aesthetics
  • NEXT LEVEL concepts
  • Some other cool way I have not even anticipated!!

Essentially: Is the photograph elevated due to the way in which it was captured? Or is the visual quality of the image somehow superior? Or, is there great depth of meaning behind what it portrays?

Read this blog post to learn more about the theme “Next Level.”

NEW HOST!

We are so proud to be hosted at the brand-new Renaissance Hotel at the Edmonton International Airport. The hotel is gorgeous, modern and hip. If you are a photographer or sponsor traveling to the exhibit – or even a local Edmontonian wanting to visit the show and stay the night – you can have a drink and put off the driving till later! Email me (info@alexismariechute.com) for the discount code to stay the night at The Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel.

ABOUT THE RENAISSANCE HOTEL EDMONTON

Our Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel was a nominee in the 2013 Steel Design Awards for Excellence, and it’s easy to see why. Luxurious yet subtle touches are in abundance in our well-appointed, triple-glazed rooms, which offer insulation from the elements. A heated walkway connecting the hotel to the airport will help you on your way to a stress-free flying experience, while our in-room coffee machines, well-equipped fitness center and bars and restaurants mean you can enjoy your stopover however long or short. If you have time, our resident Navigator can even guide you through the hidden charms waiting for you in South Edmonton.

PHOTOED AWARD

I have been incredibly privileged to team up with PhotoED Magazine on numerous projects over the last year. The fearless Editor-in-Chief, Rita Godlevskis, is an idea machine. I love her fearlessness to try new things and offer new opportunities in support of Canadian photography. Our visions align and so PhotoED are a natural partner for InFocus.

This coming year, for InFocus Photo 2018, PhotoED is offering a special new award! Here is more info:

The PhotoEd Magazine/ InFocus 2018 Emerging Photographer Award winner will be featured and interviewed in an up-coming print edition of PhotoED Magazine and will receive a one year (3 issue) complimentary subscription.

PhotoEd Magazine is a high quality print based publication enjoyed by discerning fans of great photography across Canada. The magazine is available by subscription and on newsstands nationally. www.photoed.ca

PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD

The other award given during InFocus Photo is our People’s Choice Award. Over the last few years, the winner of the InFocus People’s Choice Award received a $200 gift card from Vistek. At this coming installment of InFocus, the award will be taken to the next level – just like the photos. There will be other additoins to this award… but you’ll have to stay tuned as we roll out this exciting news!

The InFocus People’s Choice Award is decided by popular vote. Every photographer selected for the InFocus exhibit will have one of their images in the running for the award. During the month of January, leading up to the exhibition, anyone anywhere will be able to vote once a day for their favorite image.

The InFocus People’s Choice Award encourages people around the world to look at imagery created by Canadian photographers. It insights a dialogue going about contemporary photography. It is also just plain old FUN. The winner of the InFocus People’s Choice Award is announced during the curator talk at the opening reception of the exhibit.
